A McCormick Foundation Initiative

Why News Matters

Cafe Society is a weekly series designed to foster a more robust civil society, more cohesive and interactive communities, greater media literacy, and a more informed and engaged citizenry through weekly coffee shop conversations about contemporary social issues.

Current media reports serve as stimulants for the conversations. In addition to weekly discussions, quarterly public forums will explore critical issues related to media literacy. A new and improved DIY Cafe Society Toolkit will offer guidelines for thinking critically about the news.
