Using methodology of engagement, analysis, and response developed by Facets with children and youth over the past 25 years, the program encourages young people’s interest in the media, teaches them about messages in media, and ultimately facilitates their intelligent response to the media around them. The goal is to interest young people in the stories unfolding in the world around them and encourage them to respond to these stories in an objective and critical way.
Founded in May 1975, Facets began by showing films in a church loft. The mission of the organization is to preserve, to present and to distribute independent, world and classic film, and to educate adults and children in the art and legacy of film. Facets offers educational and artistic programs for adults and children. Media education programs for youth are held at Facets as well as in schools. Facets produces the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, the oldest and largest festival of films for children in North America, and screenings are held at additional venues including the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, The Patio Theater, The Music Box Theater, Instituto Cervantes, and the Center on Halsted.
6 educators will be involved in the program.
